نبذة عن الحدث

Join Artists Shahryanshah Sirajuddin and Hatem Arafa as they share their creative practice and reflect on reviving Arabic calligraphy traditions.

Shahryanshah Sirajuddin, a calligraphy virtuoso born in Sangkulirang, Indonesia in 1986, began his journey at Al-Azhar University-Egypt, graduating in 2009. Under Sheikh Belaid Hamidi's guidance in Egypt, he mastered Riq’a, Diwani, and Diwani Jali scripts. Encouraged by his mentor, he continued his studies in Turkey, learning from renowned masters like Hasan Çelebi, Ferhat Kurlu, and Mümtaz Seçkin Durdu.

Awarded the prestigious Ijazah in Arabic calligraphy by IRCICA, Shahryanshah's dedication led him to pursue a Magister program in Fine Arts at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University. His talent shines in calligraphy competitions, with his works adorning galleries worldwide. Collaborating with Fatma Ulusoy Hoca, they create art that transcends paper, infusing it with passion and purpose, leaving an enduring impact on Istanbul's artistic landscape.

Hatem Arafa, a master calligraphy artist and graphic designer, relocated to Turkey in 2014 to delve into traditional Islamic arts, establishing himself as a global figure. His expertise spans Arabic calligraphy, from Al-Diwani to Kufi scripts, alongside contemporary designs that blend tradition with innovation. Notable collaborations include crafting the logo for the Assassin's Creed video game and designing commemorative coins for the Qatar World Cup 2022. His artistic prowess extends to architectural adornments, such as the intricate calligraphy in the Cary Mosque, and luxury watch designs with Christophe Claret. Arafa's dedication to preserving tradition while pushing artistic boundaries has earned him international acclaim as a trailblazer in Islamic art and design.
